As a child, Karen acted in school plays and sang in choir. Eventually, she majored in English and Dramatic Art at University of California, Berkeley. Karen’s debut in the entertainment world was in the 1968 play The Gingham Dog. This role was her stepping stone into Hollywood and the endless opportunities it offered. She was a very successful actress, and many looked up to her despite her being a newcomer to the industry.

She gained further attention from viewers when she portrayed Caroline Ingalls in the hit TV series, Little House on the Prairie. She went on to have a colorful career with many television and film credits, including a role in the 1994 film Wyatt Earp. She became the artistic director of Santa Fe’s Resource Theater Company and performs in and directs theater productions. She also teaches at several universities.
