Jam-Packed River

Known as the Kaljakellunta in Finnish (Beer Floating), it’s an annual open festival that has originated from the Uusima province of Finland, where thousands of participants float down a river in various kinds of inflatable and self-made rafts while getting drunk on beer. It’s where the name came from—“Kalja” means beer, and “Kellunta” stands for floating. Its popularity has been growing exponentially over the years with thousands of participants, even though there’s no official organizer. The event has also gained international attention in recent years, and the number of tourists participating increased to a great degree.

Since the event doesn’t have any official organizer, the routes and dates are not set either. Traditionally, it has been carried out yearly on either the last weekend of July or the first weekend of August. The floating route, date, and time vary by year is decided through social media websites.
