On The Perils of Statues

Statues sure have a lot of meaning behind them and they also contain large traces of history. The construction of statues is often carried out to deliver historical or political information but they do not convey an unchanging truth from days past; these are still subject to degree of the viewer’s understanding, interpretation, and experiences.

In-frame is a man immortalized in mid-air, who perhaps hopped in an attempt to make it look that the statue kicked him. However, after this photo surfaced the internet, there have been controversies regarding memes that include statues: whether or not it is moral to use these lifeless but meaningful structures as a laughing stock. While most would think it is just a display of humor, some would take it as an insult to the values that kept the statue standing in the first place.
