Anchorage, Alaska

While Anchorage, Alaska, may have started in 1914, the city first experienced exploration back in 1778, and that credit goes to English explorer Captain James Cook. Initially made as a railroad-construction port, workers eventually set up tents around town. Simultaneously, this was the start of its journey into becoming a city.

Along with it now being one of the largest cities in America, Anchorage is also quite a nice place to live. For starters, its location is in Alaska, which reportedly has no native snakes – save for some that saw purchases as pets. Speaking of animals, black bears and moose also roam the cityscape at night – they would sometimes walk the street just like every other local. Now, on the more economical side of things, Anchorage is also credited as one of – if not – the most tax-friendly cities in the United States.
