We’ve already listed a couple of historically significant places in this article, but the city of Annapolis in Maryland has got to be one of the most distinguished. Now home to the United States Naval Academy, the lively town of Annapolis is also known as the “Sailing Capital of the World.”

As an old town teeming with colonial history, Annapolis is beautiful to people craving to learn more about the historical influence of one of Maryland’s oldest cities. It was first founded in 1649 and was named after Princess Anne of Denmark and Norway.  Besides that, however, Annapolis also offers a wide range of activities for retirees planning to move there. For starters, residents can choose whether to live out that old-world lifestyle by buying an antique home at the city center or go more modern in nearby developments. Whatever you choose, you’re guaranteed to have access to neighboring boating areas along the Chesapeake Bay and museums with various pieces from the past and the present. There’s also plenty of shopping centers where you can swipe your credit card to your heart’s content.
