Providence, Rhode Island
The city of Providence in Rhode Island is a runner-up for the best place to live in after a retirement in the U.S. The median home price is quite lower here, sitting only at $204,000–you don’t have to spend a lot of your investment money. It only has a population of roughly 180,000 as of 2019.
Despite being one of the oldest cities in the US, Providence has eight hospitals and seven higher learning institutions. It has effectively shifted its economy into service industries, though it still has major manufacturing activity. It’s one of the first cities in the country that has been industrialized and became known for its textile manufacturing. Providence also has the same culture as Rhode Island. It celebrates WaterFire, an environmental art installation, during the summer months, where people blaze 100 bonfires above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the city’s middle downtown.
