Fort Collins, Colorado
Through the years, Colorado’s Fort Collins has achieved many things. Along with restoring the almost-century-old trolley car, the Birney Car 21, the city also takes credit for being one out of the five bike-friendly communities in America.
Besides these, though, Fort Collins also played a significant part in designing Disneyland. Before construction work began, Walt Disney asked help from the Fort Collins-raised art director Harper Goff. For the park’s Main Street USA area, Goff relied on childhood memories for his design. Thanks to that, many areas of the historic town, such as the city hall building, the bank, the Old Firehouse Book Store, and the Old Linden Hotel, have found their way into one of the world’s most visited theme parks today. Speaking of attractions, Fort Collins residents and visitors can also check out Horsetooth Reservoir, which has remnants of Stout city underneath the body of water – Stout’s residents evacuated due to flooding back in the 1940s.
