Penny Wong

Penelope Ying-Yen Wong is an Australian politician and has been Minister for Foreign Affairs since 23 May 2022.Wong has been a South Australian Senator since 1 July 2002 and has held a number of Cabinet positions including Minister for Climate Change and Minister for Finance and Deregulation. Wong was born in Malaysia to a British Australian mother and Chinese Malaysian father and worked as a lawyer and political consultant before entering the Senate.

Wong is a lesbian and came out publicly one month after taking his seat in the Senate in 2002. In 2010, Wong was voted one of the 25 most influential Australian lesbians by readers of the Samesame website. Wong’s domestic partner, Sophie Alloash, is a public servant and former president of the University of Adelaide Students’ Union. They have two
